About the Event

Colleen O'Neil is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and has been providing school-based chemical health support for 7 years, most recently for the Mounds View school district. School-based chemical health support includes direct support for students who may have challenges around their own substance use, a loved ones use or a friend's use.  Education is a huge part of prevention and this may include direct classroom presentations as well as educating the broader community in various capacities.  Mental health and substance use often go hand in hand and creating a well rounded behavioral health support for students is key in helping them navigate challenges they may be experiencing.  Substance use and substance use disorders can be complex.  The ability for students to connect and discuss those challenges is key in helping educate and redirect moving forward.  The ability to educate and support parents allows them to have important conversations they may otherwise not have due to fear and lack of information.  The more we know-the better we can navigate!
