About the Event
Colleen O'Neil is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and has been providing school-based chemical health support for 7 years, most recently for the Mounds View school district. School-based chemical health support includes direct support for students who may have challenges around their own substance use, a loved ones use or a friend's use. Â Education is a huge part of prevention and this may include direct classroom presentations as well as educating the broader community in various capacities. Â Mental health and substance use often go hand in hand and creating a well rounded behavioral health support for students is key in helping them navigate challenges they may be experiencing. Â Substance use and substance use disorders can be complex. Â The ability for students to connect and discuss those challenges is key in helping educate and redirect moving forward. Â The ability to educate and support parents allows them to have important conversations they may otherwise not have due to fear and lack of information. Â The more we know-the better we can navigate!
