Why would parents become involved in the Ramsey County Children’s Mental Health Collaborative? Why is parent involvement desired?
Parents are the experts in their children’s mental health care and as such they can identify the needs of children and families that are specific to Ramsey County. Through participation in the Collaborative parents are able to consult with and advise service providers, Human Services, Corrections, and area schools about the barriers, breakdowns, and successes occurring in children’s mental health services.
Because the Collaborative believes that children are best cared for in and by their families and because it believes that families have a unique knowledge of their children, Ramsey County Children's Mental Health Collaborative is committed to collaboration between parents and professionals when designing and delivering services for children to achieve their goals.
As essential partners in the Collaborative, we ask for and listen to families input about the services we provide and how we provide them. We will try to use those ideas to change what we can do and how we do it to create the most effective and family friendly environment and services possible.
We also develop avenues for families to serve as advisors on issues of governance, policy, and management. Parents actively participating in the Collaborative or its committees vote as equals with professionals in the mental health field.
Parents receive a $25.00 stipend for attending Collaborative meetings |
